Finishing up at Brigham Young University in Utah, I couldn’t wait to begin my career in mortgage lending! What an amazing opportunity to be in a position of trust during transactions of such importance in people’s lives that involve things they care about most – their home, their family and their money.

After originating loans in Utah for a few years, I moved to Colorado to open and manage a new office for a rapidly expanding mortgage company. In 2001, a close friend of mine and I exercised our entrepreneurial spirit and started our own lending company as producing managers/owners. Our mission was to put people ahead of policies and relationships above revenue and to be a bright spot in the mortgage industry. Also during these years, I attended the University of Denver and earned an MBA from the Daniel’s College of Business.

Here at V.I.P., I am excited to continue my commitment to providing the very best customer experience possible while building high-producing teams, growing the V.I.P. brand and making a difference with a company that puts people as its priority.

When I am not working, I enjoy golf, fishing, skiing, running, Crossfit, yard work, technology, chocolate chip cookies and, most of all, time with family. My wife and I have four children. We are active in our church, and I currently serve as Steering Committee member and Sports Breakfast Committee Co-Chair with the Denver Area Council Boy Scouts of America.

I am from Parker, Colorado and other than my time away at college, have called this town home for 30 years. I earned my bachelor’s in Business from Colorado State University in Fort Collins with an emphasis on real estate and finance, jump starting my career into the mortgage industry.

For more than 20 years now, I have gained extensive knowledge and experience, not only as a loan officer, but also working as a real estate broker, an appraiser and a title company rep. My hands-on experience in so many facets of the industry gives me a unique understanding of the entire transaction from start to finish. I also believe that I have important insight into the needs and wants of my realtors and apply that perspective in every purchase transaction. I am extremely service oriented and tend to develop deeply personal ties with my customers and partners. I became involved with horses very early in my life, and still return to the family farm to work cattle and enjoy the small-town lifestyle. I also have horses of my own, primarily for pleasure. I originally hail from a beautiful small town in Minnesota called Mahtomedi, located on White Bear Lake.  I earned my bachelor’s degree in business management and psychology from Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, in 1980. After spending 21 years in the bitter cold, I relocated to Tucson, Arizona for a milder climate and spent a year in banking before moving to Mesa, landing my first job in mortgage banking.

In August 1988, I moved to Colorado, continuing to develop my mortgage career in various capacities from processing to sales manager/ loan origination. Though the industry continues evolving, I still find what I do extremely challenging and rewarding.

I have been asked on a number of occasions whether it is harder to obtain mortgage financing today than a few years ago. While more documentation is being requested today than in the past, we are still able to make home ownership a reality for many customers. Each borrower is treated with respect and is fully supported as we navigate through the mortgage loan application process to closing. Our superior customer service continues even after the mortgage closes.  My team and I — including Jennifer Bishop, Lindsay Shultz and Amy Hester — are committed to making relationships for life.

My husband and I live in Central Colorado where we enjoy snowshoeing, alpine and cross-country skiing, white water rafting, fly fishing, camping and hiking. We are surrounded by the Collegiate Peaks and have climbed eight of the 14,000-foot mountain peaks affectionately known as the “fourteeners” in the area. I also enjoy cooking, reading, photography, interior design and gardening. I am currently a member of the Sunrise Rotary group, working specifically on a committee for scholarships, and early childhood reading program. In 2005, I was recognized as the Kiwanian of the year from our club in Salida.
